Dr. Fahy received in his M.D. degree from University College Dublin, Ireland in 1985. After internal medicine training in Dublin, he started a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at UCSF in 1989. He joined the faculty at UCSF in 1993 and became Associate Professor in 1999. He attends in the ICU and in the outpatient chest faculty practice, and he is actively involved in clinical research in the division.
Dr. Lazarus received his M.D. degree from the University of California, Irvine, and completed training in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at UCSF. Drafted into military service, he spent 2 years defending our country as Chief of Pulmonary Medicine and Co-Director of the ICU at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. before returning to UCSF for additional research training in the Cardiovascular Research Institute. Since joining the faculty at UCSF in 1983, Dr. Lazarus has directed basic and clinical research on the mechanisms and treatment of asthma and other airway diseases. He is Director of the Chest Faculty Practice, Director of the Medical Specialty Practices, and Associate Director of the Adult Pulmonary Laboratory.
Dr. Boushey received in his M.D. degree from the UCSF in 1968. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at UCSF and at the Beth-Israel Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He then pursued specialty training in Pulmonary Medicine at Oxford University and at UCSF. He joined the UCSF faculty in 1974 and, except for a year’s sabbatical at the University of Paris (Cochin Hospital), has remained here for his entire career. He has served as Vice-Chair of the Department of Medicine and Chief of the Medical Service (1989-1995) and recently as Chief of the Division of Allergy/Immunology and Director of the Asthma Clinical Research Center. Dr. Boushey’s major academic interests include clinical research on the pathogenesis and treatment of asthma, focusing especially on the role of viral respiratory infections in triggering asthma exacerbations. He serves also on editorial boards, expert panels, and advisory committees. He currently also serves as the secretary-treasurer of the American Thoracic Society.
Dr. Woodruff received his MD from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons (1993) and MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health (1998). His postgraduate training includes an Internal Medicine Residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, a Research Fellowship in Respiratory Epidemiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine here at UCSF. He joined the UCSF faculty in 2002 and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and an investigator in the UCSF Airway Clinical Research Center and NIH/NHLBI COPD Clinical Research Network.
Dr. Hays is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCSF and serves as an Attending Physician on the Lung Transplantation Service and as the Assistant Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis center. Dr. Hays received his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and then completed his medical degree, residency and chief residency at the University of Kansas. Dr. Hays then completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine at UCSF, followed by a Lung Transplantation fellowship at Stanford University. He returned to UCSF as a faculty member in 2004.
